A positive χ12 indicates the enthalpy does not favor dissolution.
- If the Gibbs Free Energy of change is positive, dissolution will not occur.
- If the Gibbs Free energy of cyange is negative, dissolution will occur.
A derivation is available that begins with interaction energies and then becomes a formula that, when the Flory interaction parameter is put into it, the result is the enthalpy listed above (enthalpy with kT).
